Due to the fact that Windows enforces you to use a file name you cannot create a file .gitignore, or can you?

Turns out actually can! You only have to append a single dot to the end of the file so instead of writing .gitignore you can create it by typing .gitignore..

There are a lot more options like using the command line or saving the file in notepad but sometimes you want to create it from the Explorer and this was how you can do it.
